Visiting Beer and the Jurassic Coast

With a population of just around 1,300 residents, Beer is a relatively small but incredibly vibrant community. Indeed, the village’s maritime heritage is very much alive today with an active fishing fleet, with some boat owners also offering mackerel fishing trips. Fans of seafood should also be sure to seek out the fresh locally caught fish, crab and shellfish. Beer Fish, for example, is a popular wet fish shop that sells both fresh local fish, as well as some frozen products.

The beach at Beer is a charming shingle coastline, surrounded by tall cliffs and often dotted with some of the village’s colourful fishing boats. It should be noted that dogs are welcome on the beach from 1 October to 30 April but are banned during the summer months.

Fortunately, both Beer and the wider Jurassic Coast are home to some simply breath-taking local walks, so you and your dog can enjoy a bracing stroll at any time of the year.

Naturally, you can also expect to find plenty of welcome local bars, shops and places to eat. Beer is also home to Pecorama – the world’s leading manufacturer of model railways. This is a wonderful tourist attraction, providing an unforgettable day out for rail enthusiasts of all ages, with its gardens, tearooms and the Beer Heights Light Railway.
